never heard the Ventures version,I like the Bobbie Gentry and Aretha Franklin versions,Surprisingly the Redbone version is not that good,you would think that Pat & Lolly would have done the definitive version

The Ventures did an excellent instumental version of this song on their Swamp Rock album. Also The Ventures worked with Pat & Lolly Vegas in 1963. Danny Hamilton played lead guitar with The Avantis (+ Pat/Lolly.... "Wax 'em down" - killer surf iinstrumental!).
