december 2004For most of the year, eleven year old Cokorda Maya is a normal schoolgirl. But every so often, she dons her regal robes and turns into a Balinese princess. She's the granddaughter of Princess Maya, considered by many to be divine. When her grandmother recently died, Cokorda participated in the elaborate Hindu cremation ceremony - which took place on a scale that's never likely to be repeated.Produced by ABC AustraliaDistributed by Journeyman Pictures

@ravving I respected both sides but if you think Hindu in Bali is different than in India maybe you're kinda right, remember, when Hindu is brought to Bali centuries ago and they had adjusted the religion with the traditional Balinese culture. Imagine trying to persuade people in a another land with 'your' believe, that's not easy. Even other religion has different culture through out different regions of the world.

@ravving , dont worry mate, the girl is not princess like in the old kingdom, she is totally will become a modern girl, she will go to school abroad, goes to party, dating man she likes, and will marry one she loved. Bali was unity to Indonesia since 1945, and left the kingdom system to be come part of republic of Indonesia. There was 8 kingdom existed in 1900 and that princess is only come from a royal family that live in Ubud Bali, where there is thousand of royal fam in Bali today.

@ravving , I think you were misunderstood with the ceremony, no body get hurts on that parade, no body jump to the fire (satya like ancient India), even no animal got slaughtered, the ceremony bring joy and happiness with it spectacular cultural show, off course it cost lot of money, but it also attract tourist from all around the world, that turning the economy and make people in Bali live in wealthiness. I think one day you need to come to Bali, we will always wellcome you with love and peace
