http://www.ted.com Philosopher Dan Dennett calls for religion -- all religion -- to be taught in schools, so we can understand its nature as a natural phenomenon. Then he takes on The Purpose-Driven Life, disputing its claim that, to be moral, one must deny evolution.TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes -- including speakers such as Jill Bolte Taylor, Sir Ken Robinson, Hans Rosling, Al Gore and Arthur Benjamin. The Purpose Driven... ignorant enslavement to a cult.

Then why do Pakistanis commit suicide bombings against other Pakistanis? Why do Iraqis do it to each other? In the Philippines a small group of foriegn Muslims commit terror attacks against the native population.

The vast majority of suicide attacks are not against foreigners, but inflicted upon fellow country men and women who belong to rival religious and political factions. While research shows they are often not religious fanatics, suicide bombers are very rarely atheist.

Dan Dennet policy on teaching religon is not new, I was taught RE in my school the way DD advocates, I left school in 1979..

You've obviously not read the Bible. Was not Jesus tortured (and he was human), did he not sacrifice himself for our salvation, and did he not ask us to "drink of my blood, eat of my flesh", ie. human consumption. Christianity must therefor be equal to Satanism.

Allow me a moment of pedantry: cows CAN survive without man. Cows that manage to escape go feral very quickly, and actually become quite dangerous. They are easily re-domesticated, though.

"suicide bombers are simply people who are expelling a foreign entity from their territory."That is why they are BOMBERS, yes. But it is difficult to motivate young men to be SUICIDE bombers without giving them some sort of promise of an afterlife.

Clearly, the main reason someone becomes a suicide bomber is that they're both desperate and severely pissed off. (And yes, historically, this tends to happen when your country is being occupied and it's infrastructure is destroyed)But religion DOES help.- It's easyer to summon the courage if you believe in an afterlife.- It's easyer to recruit when under the guise of a religious organisation.- Religion has been a factor in many of the recent conflicts.

Religion DOES help one to become a suicide bomber? The research tells another story...that suicide bombers are simply people who are expelling a foreign entity from their territory.

Not a SINGLE joke about "sacred cows"? Come ON, people! Get with it!
